At FUNCTIONAL RIVER ECOLOGY, we are committed to promoting sustainability and conservation of rivers. Rivers are among the most diverse and complex ecosystems on Earth and are among the most threatened. FRE strives to apply basic scientific principles to measure, characterize, identify interrelationships, and quantitatively assess and restore key ecological functions of freshwater ecosystems. With 30 years of field and laboratory experience, FRE experts can tailor riverine and wetland projects for Federal, state and local agencies, NGOs, private land owners and businesses with an interest in managing streams, rivers, and wetlands. Through public lectures, educating at schools and unversities, the development of tools and techniques, FRE seeks to get people rallying around rivers and motivated to work to wisely use, protect, and enhance the 'arteries of the earth' worldwide.
